DJI Matrice 5TD Appears in Chinese Registry, Hinting at Major Enterprise Upgrades

DJI’s next enterprise drone may have just surfaced ahead of an official announcement. A recently discovered registration entry on China’s civil drone platform references a model called the DJI Matrice 5TD, giving industry observers an early look at what could become the successor to the Matrice 4TD.

According to the registration listing, the Matrice 5TD carries the model code M5TD and is classified as a light-category drone intended for professional inspection work, including power line and oil pipeline monitoring. The filing lists an empty weight of 2.6 kg (5.7 lb) and a maximum takeoff weight of 3.05 kg (6.7 lb).

Significantly Heavier Than the Matrice 4TD

One of the most notable details is the drone’s increased weight.

For comparison, the current DJI Matrice 4TD weighs approximately 1.85 kg with its battery installed and has a maximum takeoff weight of 2.09 kg. Based on the registration information, the Matrice 5TD could be roughly 750 grams heavier, suggesting substantial hardware additions.

Industry speculation points toward integrated technologies that previously required external accessories. These could include:

  • Built-in LiDAR sensors
  • Integrated RTK positioning hardware
  • Enhanced navigation and obstacle detection systems
  • Improved inspection and mapping capabilities

If accurate, these upgrades would make the Matrice 5TD particularly attractive for utility companies, infrastructure operators, and industrial inspection teams.

Leaks Continue to Surface Online

Recent posts shared by well-known drone industry leakers have added momentum to the rumors surrounding the aircraft.

Images allegedly showing both a prototype version and a product render of the Matrice 5TD have appeared online, displaying a design similar to DJI’s existing enterprise platforms. While DJI has not officially confirmed the authenticity of these materials, the consistent naming and registration details have fueled expectations that development is well underway.

The “TD” naming convention is also noteworthy. DJI currently uses the designation for thermal-enabled dock-compatible platforms, such as the Matrice 4TD that works with DJI Dock 3.

Could DJI Be Preparing a New Dock System?

Alongside the Matrice 5TD rumors, reports have also suggested that DJI may be developing a Dock 4 system.

Although no official details have been announced, a next-generation dock would make sense if DJI intends to introduce more advanced autonomous inspection capabilities. Automated drone docks have become increasingly important for industries such as public safety, utility inspections, asset monitoring, and emergency response.

At this stage, however, neither the Matrice 5TD nor a potential Dock 4 system has been formally unveiled by DJI.

What It Could Mean for Enterprise Operators

If the leaked specifications prove accurate, the Matrice 5TD could represent a significant step forward for autonomous inspection operations.

The increased weight may indicate that DJI is moving critical technologies such as LiDAR and RTK directly into the aircraft rather than relying on external modules. This approach could simplify deployment, improve reliability, and provide more precise data collection for inspection missions.

The drone also appears to remain focused on professional infrastructure applications rather than general-purpose commercial operations.

While DJI has yet to officially announce the Matrice 5TD, the appearance of a registration filing suggests the project is progressing behind the scenes. The reported weight increase and potential integration of advanced sensing technologies point toward a more capable platform for industrial inspections and autonomous operations.

Until DJI releases official specifications, many details remain unconfirmed. Still, the Matrice 5TD is already shaping up to be one of the most interesting enterprise drone developments to watch in the coming months.
